Virtual Name & Gender Marker Change Clinic - Attorney Registration

It's time for another important day of service to our community!

This virtual clinic will assist clients throughout Virginia with name change applications, administrative and judicial petitions for gender marker changes, birth certificate corrections, DMV and social security record updates, DD214 updates (military discharge records), and answering related legal questions. Attorneys, law students, and paralegals will first attend a CLE on Saturday, November 1st at 10:00 AM and receive their client and attorney/student/paralegal group assignments after the CLE is finished. Groups will schedule a time to meet with their clients via Zoom (an account can be provided) and prepare the necessary documentation over the next week . Once the documentation is ready, groups will share each client's documentation with the clinic team via a protected shared file (no later than 6:00 p.m. on 11/8), who will then review the documents for any edits that need to be made and share the finalized documents with the clients via a protected shared file.

CLE: The clinic training is expected to be approved for two hours of MCLE credit. Training begins at 10:00 a.m. on Zoom and ends around 12:00 p.m. when group and client assignments will be shared. All volunteer attorneys, paralegals, and law students will be required to attend the CLE due to the rapidly-changing updates to the law surrounding name and gender marker changes.
